The objective of this health impact assessment is to assess the potential health impacts of a one cent per fluid ounce tax on every distributor of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) throughout the state. This proposed tax would be used to fund Children Health Programs, community organizations, and childhood obesity prevention programs. The study collected data on low-income communities with a high rate of sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) and a high prevalence of nutrition related chronic diseases.
