This article reviews the traumatic impact of identity-based hate and violence, examines existing data onglobal prevalence rates, and describes a framework for under-standing hate-based violence as a potential form of trauma that impacts individual- and community-level mental health. It also provides a review of existing literature on mental health interventions for hate-based violence exposure, describes the impact of advocacy, and provides recommendations for future research directions.
